So the Christian Science Church is now recommending that sick members seek medical attention if they feel it's necessary. That's great, no really. Only it's a little too late for some people isn't it? When are we going to get that public apology (not that that's enough) for all the people and children who have died under your care because you told them that germs do not exist and that with a little prayer, they'll start feeling better?
"One of the practitioners, John Q. Adams of Manhattan, said a patient who came to him with a lump under his arm was experiencing “a manifestation of fear, not a lump.”
The other practitioner, Rebecca Odegaard of Boston, said that if a patient had a bleeding gash in his arm, “I would try to calm this person, and help him overcome the fear.” Such a patient is suffering anxiety over the illusion that something has injured his “true self,” when the gash has only happened to his “material self,” Ms. Odegaard said."
No you blithering moron. They're not afraid because they mistakenly believe they've "injured their true self" they're afraid because they're bleeding out. They don't need to be prayed for, they need to see a doctor. The fact that you decide to pray for someone who is bleeding out rather than getting them an ambulance speaks more than words about your level of delusion. This goes beyond the domain of someone's personal beliefs and far into the realm of "danger to society".
Here's an idea: why don't you remove all your vital organs and sell them on the black market? You don't need them, they're only part of your "material self". And then Jaysus can beam you up to his cloud house, which really works out for all of us, doesn't it?
The reason they gave for this new stance on medicine is that their number of members are dwindling. Yup. It has nothing to do with them wanting their "provisions" to be covered by the new health care reform, and them knowing that the government could not in good conscience pay for them to supplement prayer for medicine.
This is an outrage.
